Today is our last full day here in Amsterdam. We leave tomorrow afternoon, so I’m up early this morning finishing up this blog post so I can enjoy the rest of the day. I’ve had such a great time, but am ready to get back home to my kitchen and cat. I’m going to start working on something when I’m back home that I’m really excited to share later on. It’s going to be an extra busy next few months for me!
I didn’t plan on putting my green bean recipe on the blog. A few people on Instagram asked for the recipe, so I thought I would share since I love them so much! Green beans are my favorite vegetable. I have lots of memories picking them from my parents garden in Kentucky and breaking them with my grandma and mom. We would also can several jars of them to enjoy throughout the year.
I like to keep jars of my mom’s garden green beans in my pantry, but forgot to grab some the last time I visited home. The green beans in the produce section at the grocery just don’t cut it, so I use canned cut green beans when I don’t have fresh ones from the garden or have mom’s jarred ones on hand. I keep my green beans simple using only bacon, reserved bacon grease and a couple of spices. They’re full of flavor and always remind me of being back home. I make them at least once a week and even more during garden season. I included instructions for both canned and fresh beans below. If you give them a try, I hope you love them as much as I do.
